Wild life in Himalayas A huge variety of flora and fauna is present in Himalayan region. Even rare medical herbs are found here. In the foothills of Himalayas better known as 'Terai', there are tropical forest of Teak, Shisham and Sal. After reaching on higher elevation you also find Pine, Deodar, Oak, Rhododendron, Birch, Fir and Juniper. On going further Juniper converts into Bush. As the tree line ends, green velvet carpet of alpine meadows unfolds. A number of wild flowers can be seen here. Though Himalayan region is known as Eden of Flowers but there also exists a great variety of plants and animal kingdom. The fauna of the region includes elephants, tigers, deers, crocodiles, wild boar and pythons in the foothills of Himalayas. At higher altitudes exotic species like Blue sheep, popular Musk Dear and Snow Leopard can also be seen. Lovely colorful birds like Monal are present in western, eastern and central regions.
