These glaciers are accessible from Joshimath. From Joshimath you have to follow the trail heading towards the Badrinath and Mana (3128m) motorable road. From Mana, you need to follow the path moving along the course of the Alaknanda river. On the right bank of the Alaknanda river, a water-fall named Vasudhara flows at an altitude of 3250m. In order to reach the nose of the glacier, it is further From Vasudhara, 5km upward the snout of the glaciers open. 2kms. down the valley, the left bank of the river is suitable for camping. Synopsis: The Satopanth and Bhagirathi-Khark are important glaciers. These glaciers are located 17kms. from the famous temple of Badrinath, in Chamoli District. The name “Satopanth glacier” has been derived from two words- Sato stands for Heaven and panth means path or way. These glaciers are produced from the peaks of Chaukhamba (7068m) and Badrinath (6974m) range of peaks.
