About 25 kms. from Joshimath, there lies the last road head “Lata”, to these group of glaciers. From Lata, a path continues through the thick forest of Pine, Bhoj and other trees and there also exist the whole kingdom of alpine meadows up to Lata Kharak.
From Lata Kharak the itinerary passes across the constricting gorges, sharp upland slopes and at times you have to even walk through snow patches, to range the glaciers snout.

Synopsis:
These glaciers develop on the southern slope of Nanda Devi peak (7108 m). Other important glaciers in the neck of the woods are Trishul, Kururntoli, Nandakna, Bartoli and Ramani. These glaciers are well formulated and vary in size and length. The streams originating due to the melting of snow on glaciers gives rise to the river Rishi Ganga, which finally merges in the Dhauli Ganga at Raini, 25 kms. from Joshimath.
