From Gaurikund, you have to follow the trail running over the hill slopes up to Kedanath Temple. Further, there is only a distance of 3 kms. that too can be covered on foot to the glacier snout. A stream of water which flows when the snow on the glacier melts leads to the formation of the lake named “Ganghi Sarovar”. The lake is formed between the rock face and right latera moraine of the glacier.

Synopsis:
This glacier arise from the southern slope of Kedar-dorne, Bhartekhunta and Kirti Stambh . It is this hill range only which divides the Gangotri group of glaciers and the Chorbari glacier through its water divide. The lower part of the glacier is covered by thick debris and bounded by huge deposits of lateral moraines. At the termination point of the glacier, an ice melt watercourse originates named Mandakini and which finally unifies with the Alaknanda at Rudraprayag.
