Ranikhet

Ranikhet, the hill resort is situated at an altitude of 1824 m above sea level. Placed in the lap of northern Indian state of Uttaranchal, in the Kumaon hills, the hill resort of Ranikhet is 59 km from Nainital and 50 km from Almora. Ranikhet is another beautiful and charming hill resorts of the hills of Uttar Pradesh. This place offers a spellbounding and mesmerizing sight of the majestic Himalayas and one can even view the Nanda Devi group of peaks. Its attractive plant life, lush green pine and oak forests and varied fauna are bewitching the tourists coming here in their own ways. Legend has proofs that this place was so much admired by Rani Padmini, queen of Raja Sudhardev that she made it her dwelling place. Since that time this place is identified as 'Ranikhet', literally meaning "the Queen's Field".
