Almora is one of the three hill districts of Kumaon. It is also the cultural capital of Kumaon. Almora is also tagged as “the unspoilt child” of nature. It is located on a three-mile long horse shoe ridge and is surrounded by four hill ranges - Banari Devi, Kasar Devi, Shayahi Devi and Katarnal. The three peaks have temples of Goddesses whereas Katarnal has a very old Sun temple worth visiting. Almora is situated at the top a peak that is half circular. It has its own historical, cultural and political significance.
