Situated in the northwestern part of the state of Himachal Pradesh in the northern region of India, the town of Chamba lies on the River Ravi, in a valley between two mountain ridges. Chamba is 56 km from Dalhousie. The weather in Chamba is alpine. April-June, the summer period here is easygoing and winters are cold (November-February) here. In July-September, this region experiences the southwestern monsoon rains.
If one has a glimpse at the history of Chamba, then one can easily know that it was a part of the Mughal Empire and later it became the part of various Sikh kingdoms. Finally it came under the control of British and became a part of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The town was named after Raja Varman’s daughter Champavati. Positioned among the Shivalik ranges, this small town of Chamba is well-known for its holy places.
