Joshimath is a spell bounding place with its lovely and eye catching views of the lofty mountains. Its pleasant weather conditions and Greenery are spellbounding. The hill station of Joshimath is situated at an altitude of 6,000 ft in the Chamoli district of Garhwal Division in Uttaranchal. The Alaknanda and the Dhauliganga, the two rivers meet at the union of Karnaprayag.
In the ancient scriptures, Joshimath is identified as Kartikeyapura, as the Katyuri kings named it after their God, Kartikeya. “Jyotirmath” is the another name by which this place is acknowledged. . The great Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya established certain monastries in the 8th century AD. Joshimath is one of those four great “maths”, or monastries. Since times immemorial, Joshimath is the core of various religious and cultural activities.
