Chakrata is a mountain cantonment area in Dehradun district which overlooks the valleys of Jamuna and Tons. It was founded in 1866 and was first occupied in April 1869.
Surrounded by dense forests,this place is dotted with the village Jaunsar-Bawar. The highlight of Chakrata is Kharamba Peak which is 10,000 ft high. It used to be a mountain cantonment town during British India. On the northern slopes of Chakrata is Mundali which is a great spot for skiing and trekking. Various animals like wild fowl,panther and spotted dear can be found here.
